October Updates

News from Nance

There’s a sign in my office that I bought at a thrift store; it says:

Children are not distractions from more important work.

They are the most important work.

C.S. Lewis

I know you agree with that, or you wouldn’t be getting a thank you letter for supporting this ministry. And we are so thankful for your giving!

Recently, I had fun when I brought my granddaughter (3) to the office with me because her brother had to go to get stitches. We were stuffing our twice-yearly Spotlight newsletter into the envelopes with a group of volunteers. She sat on my lap and put the little envelope into the newsletter, which we then put into the big envelope. She was so proud of her work. She said, “I’m working” and “I’m Granny’s helper girl.” What a joy to be able to teach her the importance of work.

I’m so grateful for the volunteers, staff and donors who put a high priority on the work of reaching children. Last year, one of our partner churches had a fall and then a spring Good News Club® at a Dayton school. They had 3 kids sign up, but only 1 consistently came. They ministered to him both terms. He’ll never forget that. Their persistence and dedication paid off. This year they have 12 kids in their school club and 13 in the club they started at their church. They were not distracted; they did the important work and it paid off. May we all be so faithful.

As I write, we’re preparing for the Chocolate Festival. Last year, when it was in Montgomery County, we reached 347 with an in-person Gospel presentation. This year, the festival moved to Greene County. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Rachel’s Report

Our statistics year runs from September to August, so we’re in a new year now. Here is a chart of the statistics from the year 2025-2026:

Thank you for being part of these numbers through giving, praying, and going with me.

A few Good News Clubs have started already this school year and several more are starting soon. Over the past month, a team from Cornerstone Bible Church in Xenia has been getting organized for a Good News Club® at Arrowood Elementary in Xenia starting the last week of October. They have several new people on the team, including their associate pastor! It’s been a blessing to help them get ready and see their excitement for this outreach at Arrowood. We’re also getting things organized for a club at Belle Haven Elementary in Dayton. That school is just a few minutes from the office, so the office staff are going to teach that club together.

Praise the Lord for:
The Arrowood GNC™ team from Cornerstone Bible Church
Many helpers folding, stuffing, and gluing the Spotlight Newsletter

Please pray for:
Good News Clubs to be well-attended, even in schools where advertising is difficult
More teams for Dayton Public Schools – they are very welcoming to Good News Club now
